With its extraordinary performance pedigree,
the S380 is the ideal cruiser and club racer

Salona 380

Designing the yacht that would succeed the Salona 38, one of Salona’s most successful boats in history, was a daunting challenge, one that was answered by Cossuttii design and the new S380. To maximize the sailing performance of this boat the latest advances in yacht design and tools where utilized, above all maintaining the delicate balance between weight and stiffness.

Design

The S380 was designed by Maximo Cossutti and the interiors by Salona in-house design team. Cossutti Design house specialize in performance yachts design and optimization and their designs have achieve a lot of successes in the past years. The Salona 380 was carefully crafted for use as a family cruiser, as well as for serious offshore and international racing. It can easily switch back and forth between family mode and racing mode by simply changing the sail inventory.

Cockpit

The Salona 380 follows the market trend of the wide transoms, making one of the largest cockpit area of its class. Following the Salona motto of safety first, the cockpit is free of obstacles and the winches are easily to operate. The S380 features a massive swimming platform that is very easy to deploy with the release of a rope.
The mainsheet track is recessed under the deck, but it also comes with the unique option of being easily transferred onto the coach roof so as to facilitate sailing with a large Bimini top completely covering the cockpit. In the cockpit there are two spacious latches with an additional dedicated locker for two gas bottles. To achieve the perfect helming position during racing, an angled footrest, which is flush when not in use, was thoughtfully included in the design.

Construction and Safety

At the heart of all Salona yachts is the hallmark stainless steel frame that securely spreads the loads from the keel, shrouds and mast evenly throughout the hull, but the design on the new S38 goes a step further. Layers of carbon fiber have been added to carefully designated areas of the hull’s inner liner, resulting in maximum stiffness and durability and achieving equilibrium with the stainless steel structure.

Performance and Handling

A German mainsheet layout, a full-width traveler and tight headsail sheeting angles make short work of trimming. The smaller twin wheels improve steering, and changes to the sail trim are readily felt with even slight pressure variations on the helm.

Cabin Layout

The new re-designed S380 cabin offers 3 different configurations, all with plenty of natural light and ventilation. The Luxury layout offers 2 private staterooms with a toilet and separate showers. The Journey Configuration offers 2 private staterooms and one toilet & shower plus some extra storage. The Charter Configuration offers 3 private staterooms with one head & shower. All layouts include an expansive navigation table and a functional galley.

"The steel frame makes the S380 exceedingly stiff, which leads to an exelent upwind  performance."
